Lindsey is a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate (LPCA) at Counseling Services at Steele Creek. She completed her bachelor’s degree in psychology at Northwestern College in Iowa and then completed her master’s degree in Counseling and Art Therapy at Emporia State University in Kansas. Lindsey brings six years of clinical experience and is looking forward to serving the Steele Creek/ Charlotte area!
Lindsey’s career experience includes: working with residential counseling and Art Therapy for adolescents with emotional disturbances, child, adolescent and adult counseling, anxiety disorders, depression, self-harm, suicidal ideations, anger and stress management, physical, mental, sexual abuse, parent/child relational problems, and family therapy.
Lindsey views the therapeutic relationship to be very important in growth and healing. She is committed to walk alongside her clients in their journeys. Her approach to counseling utilizes a blend of cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, solution focused, systemic therapy and psycho-education as well as art therapy. Through these combined approaches a holistic setting is formed. Lindsey believes in helping the client heal by viewing each individual as a whole; taking into consideration their life experiences, physical aspects, spiritual and psychological/mental components. Holistic counseling seeks to heal individuals by helping disrupt destructive behaviors and thought patterns and build a new healthy and positive state of mental, spiritual, and physical health.
Also trained in Art Therapy, Lindsey believes that there is healing and necessary expression in art making. When words are not enough to express thoughts and emotions art allows for wordless outlet and expression. Art Therapy is a fairly new field of counseling; the American Art Therapy Association defines it:
“Art Therapy is an integrative mental health and human services profession that enriches the lives of individuals, families, and communities through active art-making, creative process, applied psychological theory, and human experience within a psychotherapeutic relationship. Through integrative methods, art therapy engages the mind, body, and spirit in ways that are distinct from verbal articulation alone. Kinesthetic, sensory, perceptual, and symbolic opportunities invite alternative modes of receptive and expressive communication, which can circumvent the limitations of language. Visual and symbolic expression gives voice to experience, and empowers individual, communal, and societal transformation.”
